Longwood Primary School

History

We believe, at Longwood, that high-quality history lessons inspire children to want to know more about the past and to think and act as historians. By linking learning to a range of themes a whole new world begins to open up for our pupils. Providing the opportunity to investigate and interpret the past, understand chronology, build an overview of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world our pupils begin to communicate historically. Our community is steeped in architectural history across the ages ranging from churches to castles - we are so lucky to have such an exciting area to explore.

As our pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of historical periods, including significant events in Britain’s past we enable them to develop a natural curiosity which hopefully turns into a passion for the past. Our pupils embrace challenging activities and an enjoyment for undertaking high-quality research across a range of themes. Our intention is that our pupils can form opinions and views using a range of sources and communicate these to others. We enable them to think critically about history and communicate ideas confidently to a range of audiences like their pen-pals (senior citizens from within the local community) using various skills.
