LONGWOOD WHOLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM INTENT

At Longwood we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that utilises our indoor and outdoor environment. We refer to this as our Connected Curriculum as we believe it helps to join up our learning. Our skills based themes include the content of the National Curriculum, interests and needs of our learners and the core values of our school as set out in our vision and ethos statements.

The Longwood Connected Curriculum enables our pupils to expand their knowledge of the area they live in and the wider world. It provides a range of opportunities to engage all abilities through building upon prior knowledge and skills previously acquired. Our curriculum encourages social skills, through team and partnership work, to encourage healthy positive relationships alongside an appreciation for others in the diverse world we all live in.

Through offering a wide range of activities we raise the aspirations of our learners by providing opportunities they may not yet have had the chance to experience. By working alongside parents and the local community we ignite the pupils' imagination by encouraging them to explore further and deeper around the theme being studied.  We want all our learners to be happy, enthusiastic and committed. We equip them with the essential skills for learning and living in harmony within their community and beyond. We prepare our learners to be reflective, expressive, independent and appreciative so that they become creative and critical, to solve problems and make positive life choices.
