Longwood Primary School

PE

At Longwood our pupils have two hours of PE timetabled per week through which we develop core skills to enable children to become well rounded sportsmen and women as set out in the National Curriculum. To ensure we exercise the whole body and mind we offer a variety of activities like lazer tag, archery and yoga. This not only exercises the whole body but also widens our pupils' experiences.

During KS2 our pupils are given the opportunity to learn to swim throughout the year. By the time the pupils leave Longwood we ensure that they can all swim at least 25m. All pupils in KS2 also have the opportunity to complete the National Cycling Proficiency scheme (Bikeability) to ensure they are aware of the dangers when out and about on their bikes and scooters.

At Longwood we pride ourselves on being good sportsmen and women. All pupils take part in a range of tournaments and sports festivals both within school (Intra-competitions) between year groups and with other schools (Inter-competitions) across Tamworth. We ensure that our pupils demonstrate to others the importance of being good sportsmen especially towards others when they have been defeated. For further information visit the Tamworth Primary Sports council website.

Pupils at Longwood enjoy being active which is promoted through our active learning curriculum for example human Venn diagrams. During social interaction times (playtime) playground buddies work together to engage all pupils in a range of activities.

As well as being physically active and appreciating the wide range of activities we have to offer our " Phunky Food Ambassadors " ensure pupils are aware of the importance of eating healthily as well as drinking plenty of water.
