Year 1 2022 - 2023
Miss Doherty
Here at Longwood we ensure that there is a smooth transition for children moving into Year One from Reception. Many of our lessons are practical with resources and equipment that help children settle into a more formal style of education and we utilise our fantastic outdoors area including the Forest School and surrounding grounds.
We incorporate lots of exciting topics into the curriculum to ensure that children are engaged and eager to learn. In the Autumn term we learn about Neil Armstrong and his journey into space, discovering how astronauts eat, sleep and work on the space station - we even have our own giant rocket to help us! In the Spring term we look into wild animals and take part in workshops at Twycross Zoo to help us take a closer look at their paws, whiskers and fur! We also learn about dinosaurs and become archaeologists, digging up fossils in our very own Jurassic Park.
Together we maintain a safe, clean and stimulating environment within which we can learn and live in harmony. We aim to promote sustainability and an awareness of wider global issues through our connected curriculum.
We have included links below to galleries of photos of our work and what has been happening in class, copies of letters sent home and curriculum guides.
