Longwood Primary School

British Values

Although this is something which is developing significantly in other establishments it is not something new at Longwood. British Values are promoted throughout our curriculum in PSHE and RE lessons as well as during assemblies.

The values are integral to our vision and ethos. Our links with other schools within the community and indeed further a field embed these values through celebrating traditions throughout the year like Harvest. We also compare our traditions with others and compare our location with other areas further a field.

Throughout our themes we also look at past events and how they have supported the numerous changes throughout time to create the diverse Britian we know today.

We actively encourage democracy and ensure we provide plenty of opportunities to voice our opinions. An very effective example would be our active School Councillors. The election process reflects our current electoral system and demonstrates democracy in action. Our school councillors play an active part in recruiting a range of staff members and sculpture our future.

As well as our internal school council members we also have two TVCLT School councillors that sit on the board of the TVCLT council.

Our learners are aware that rules and law are essential in establishing a harmonious environment. At the start of each academic year our learners discuss and agree a class set of rules to ensure everyone has the opportunity to learn in a safe and ordered environment. Our learners are taught the values and reasons behind our rules through assemblies and a range of curriculum activities. Our learners understand their rights and responsibilities towards themselves and others. We are proud to promote and celebrate a range of different backgrounds and beliefs through our themes, RE and PSHE lessons. We respect everyone and everything.
